报告题目: Vermal Cerebellum Interneuron Selectively Encode Uphill and Downhill Locomotion During Ramp Walking

演讲摘要:The cerebellum is involved in encoding balance, posture, speed, and gravity during locomotion. However, most studies have been carried out on two-dimensional (2D) ambulation, and little is known about cerebellar activity during free-moving ambulation in a 3D terrain. In the present study, we imaged neuronal activity in the molecular layer of the cerebellum at single-cell resolution while a mouse was walking on a slope in an L maze. We found that >60% of molecular interneurons in the vermis specifically encoded uphill and downhill locomotion during ramp walking irrespective of the horizontal running direction, distance from initial movement position, and slope size. In addition, neuronal activity of a subset of neurons covered entire uphill or downhill positions on the slope. Furthermore, chemogenetic inactivation of the cerebellum impaired the uphill locomotion of mice. Taken together, our results demonstrate that the vermis is crucial for ramp walking, and expand the role of the cerebellum in 3D navigation.
